Republican Ron Eick won the Carroll County commissioner primary Tuesday night, defeating Donald Leggett II in one of the county’s most closely watched local races, according to unofficial results from the Carroll County Board of Elections.
Eick received 1,529 votes, or 54.12%, while Leggett earned 1,296 votes, or 45.88%.
Carroll County voters also weighed in on a number of statewide primary races during Tuesday’s election. Voter turnout reached 23.2%, with 4,091 ballots cast out of 17,613 registered voters. Of those ballots, 3,425 were cast on Election Day, 454 during early voting and 212 by mail. All 23 precincts in the county reported results.
In the Republican primary for Ohio governor and lieutenant governor, Vivek Ramaswamy and State Sen. Robert McColley carried Carroll County with 2,045 votes, or 77.76%, defeating Casey Putsch and Kimberly Georgeton, who received 585 votes. Democrat Amy Acton and David Pepper were unopposed and received 1,023 votes.
Republican Jon Husted received 2,427 votes unopposed in the race for the unexpired U.S. Senate term. On the Democratic side, Sherrod Brown defeated Ron Kincaid in Carroll County by a margin of 945 votes to 123.
In the Republican primary for Ohio’s 6th Congressional District, incumbent Michael Rulli defeated Jullie Kelley in Carroll County with 2,047 votes, or 76.58%. Democrat Elizabeth Kirtley led the Democratic field locally with 321 votes.
The Republican primary for secretary of state saw Robert Sprague defeat Marcell Strbich in Carroll County, receiving 2,070 votes, or 80.7%. Democrat Allison Russo defeated Bryan Hambley, 562 votes to 432.
In the Republican primary for state treasurer, Jay Edwards defeated Kristina Roegner in Carroll County, 1,578 votes to 946. Democrat Seth Walsh was unopposed with 938 votes.
Former Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose was unopposed in the Republican primary for auditor of state and received 2,397 votes locally, while Democrat Annette Blackwell received 937 votes unopposed.
In the Republican primary for Ohio attorney general, current State Auditor Keith Faber was unopposed and received 2,292 votes in Carroll County. Democrat John J. Kulewicz narrowly defeated Elliot Forhan, 493 votes to 454.
Republican Al Cutrona was unopposed for the 33rd Ohio Senate District seat and received 2,192 votes, while State Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel was unopposed in the Republican primary for the 79th House District and received 2,243 votes.
In the race for the Seventh District Court of Appeals seat, David Comstock defeated Mark Anthony Hanni in the Republican primary with 1,335 votes to Hanni’s 1,127. Jennifer Thomas was unopposed in the Republican primary for Carroll County Common Pleas Probate and Juvenile judge and received 2,287 votes.
Voters also approved two local fire levies. The Perry Township Fire Levy passed with 95 votes in favor and 58 against, while the Union Township Fire Levy passed with 112 votes for and 47 against.
