A 24-year-old Massillon man died after he was struck by an SUV while standing in the roadway near his disabled vehicle in Osnaburg Township, according to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded Aug. 8 to the 1900 block of Broadway Avenue NE for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said preliminary information indicates Logan Workman, 24, of Massillon, had been driving a vehicle that became stuck in a ditch while pulling out of a driveway.
Workman was in the roadway while others were attempting to free his vehicle from the ditch when he was struck by an SUV driven by a 59-year-old Minerva man, according to the sheriff’s office.
Workman was transported to Aultman Hospital, where he later died.
The sheriff’s office did not immediately provide the time the crash occurred. No charges have been announced.
The crash remains under investigation by the Canton Metro Crash Team and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office.
The Osnaburg Township and Nimishillen Township fire departments, Stark County Coroner’s Office and East Canton Police Department assisted at the scene.
