A pedestrian was killed late Monday after being struck by a vehicle on Market Avenue North, according to Canton police.

Officers responded around 11:14 p.m. to the 2900 block of Market Avenue North for a reported crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said in a statement.

Investigators say a 2010 Dodge Journey was traveling northbound in the center lane when it struck a pedestrian who was walking eastbound across the roadway.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The driver of the Dodge was not injured.

Authorities said drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor for the driver. It remains unclear whether impairment played a role for the pedestrian.

The Canton Metro Crash Team is investigating the incident.
