Marietta police have disclosed the identity of the deceased individual discovered in the Harmar region of Marietta earlier this week.

The body was spotted by a coach from the Marietta College crew team along the western bank of the Muskingum River, located off Gilman Avenue in close proximity to the Washington Street Bridge and the Marietta College Boathouse, as detailed by Marietta Police Captain Ryan Huffman in a statement.

The man has been identified as Jeffrey Keith, 51, from New Philadelphia. Authorities indicated on Thursday that Marietta police positively identified Keith’s body and informed his next of kin.

It is speculated that Keith accidentally slipped from the riverbank into the water, especially given that the Muskingum River’s water levels were reportedly still elevated due to recent flooding at the time of the incident.

Based on preliminary investigations, law enforcement officials believe Keith’s death to be accidental.
