Marlington High School has selected Clay Libertore as its new head coach of the girls basketball program, pending approval by the school board.
Libertore, a member of the district’s professional staff since 2019, brings nine years of coaching experience and a background in education to the role. He previously spent four years as an intervention specialist at the high school before becoming the district’s career-based intervention coordinator.
Athletic director Scott Stayer said Libertore’s experience inside the building and his approach to coaching made him a strong fit for the position.
“Coach Libertore embodies the values we look for in a leader for our student-athletes,” Stayer said. “His experience as an educator within our building gives him a unique advantage in building relationships and monitoring the academic and personal growth of our players. He understands the ‘Marlington Way’ and has a clear vision for the future of the Lady Dukes.”
Libertore graduated from University of Mount Union in 2018 with a degree in special education and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education in 2024.
His coaching experience includes nine years in basketball and football, along with two years in track and field. During that time, he worked under veteran head coaches to develop his approach to leading varsity programs.
Libertore said he plans to emphasize accountability, teamwork and skill development while building a program rooted in community pride.
“I am honored and proud to lead the Lady Dukes program,” Libertore said. “My goal is to build a culture of accountability and teamwork where our athletes become confident, responsible leaders both on and off the court.”
He added that the program will focus on fundamentals, effort and unity while working to create a team that reflects the pride of the Marlington community.
