Details released in Tallmadge Police pursuit, shooting that ended in Stark County

More details have been released in connection to a pursuit and shooting involving a suspect and Tallmadge Police officers.

According to Tallmadge Police Chief Ron Williams, officers responded to a report in the 1100 block of Woods Drive regarding the presence of a man with outstanding warrants. When responding officers arrived at the scene, the suspect, who has been identified as Larry G. Beall Jr., 42, of Tallmadge, fled the scene and led officers in a pursuit that concluded in Lawrence Township, located in Stark County.

The suspect attempted to evade law enforcement by fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

During the course of the pursuit, the situation took a dangerous turn as Beall brandished a firearm and pointed it at the pursuing officers, according to a press release. Law enforcement officers discharged their service weapons.

Beall, refusing to surrender, barricaded himself within a truck. In response to the standoff, the Canton Regional SWAT team arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody.

Authorities have confirmed that Beall was shot by police during the ordeal and received medical treatment at a local hospital before being released into police custody. Presently, he remains in the Summit County Jail.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been was contacted to conduct an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Two Tallmadge officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

While Beall currently faces charges of aggravated arson, authorities note that additional charges are being filed as the investigation progresses.

The incident remains under investigation.
