All it takes is for one team to have more runs than the other – even if it’s just one run.
The Carrollton Warriors claimed the Division II sectional championship with a narrow 1-0 win over EBC rival Minerva Tuesday.
The game remained scoreless through the first two innings. In the bottom of the third inning, Carrrollton sophomore Isaac Husted scored the go ahead run to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
Husted crossed the plate after a mistake by the Lions while he was on first base. Landen McClelland attempted a drag bunt. When the ball was fielded by Minerva’s pitcher, he overthrew the ball to first base, allowing Husted to turn on the jets and score with a dive into home plate.
The Warriors and Lions were unable to put any other runs on the board, but left many runners stranded on base.
Carrollton senior pitcher Hayden Jenkins finished the game with 12 strikeouts.
With the win, Carrollton will now play Indian Creek in the district semifinal on Monday, May 20. The location of the game will not be announced until Wednesday.
