A woman has been arrested following a shooting incident that took place near the intersection of 27th Street S.W. and Carey Avenue in Akron.
The victim, a 27-year-old male, was shot and transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital by a friend in a private vehicle. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The suspect, identified as Kaelyn Smith, 26, was an acquaintance of the driver and was charged with Murder and Felonious Assault.
According to Akron Police, the victim and a friend stopped at a residence in the 1200 block of Kohler Ave and an altercation ensued over property. The driver and the victim left but briefly stopped.
Smith had followed the victim and his friend and fired a shot, hitting both the victim and the car before she fled the scene.
Smith was later taken into custody after returning to the Kohler Avenue residence.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notifications.
The incident remains under investigation.
