Malvern trailed in the early part of Tuesday night’s game, but not for long as they cruised to a 65-43 win over visiting East Canton.
East Canton jumped out to an early 4-0 lead thanks to buckets by Caleb Shilling and Jaedyn McLeod. Malvern ended the opening quarter on a 13-0 run to gain a 13-4 lead entering the second quarter – they never looked back.
Malvern held on to a 22-13 lead at halftime. J’Allen Barrino had a strong first half for Malvern with 10 points, five in each quarter – he finished the contest with 20.
Malvern dominated in the second half, outscoring East Canton 43-30.
Mitch Minor didn’t score a single point for Malvern in the first half of action, but he finished with 21 points.
The Malvern junior hit a pair of threes in the third quarter along with two foul shots for eight points in the quarter. Minor scored 13 alone in the fourth quarter, including three three-pointers. He recorded five threes on the night.
Shilling finished as East Canton’s leading scorer with 16 points. McLeod scored 12 and Olly Schrader dropped 11 points on the night.
Jared Witherow scored five points and pulled down five rebounds for Malvern. Dylan Phillips scored seven points and Drake Delong added five.
Malvern shot 7-of-8 (88%) from the free throw line. East Canton shot 5-of-7 (71%) from the line.
Malvern (7-0, 5-0) will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at home against Minerva. East Canton (3-4, 2-3) is set to play at Fairless on Friday, Dec. 30.
