One of two suspects sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old Canton man has been arrested, while a 16-year-old murder suspect remains at large.
The Canton Police Department announced Thursday that Jason L. Singletary, 25, of Canton, turned himself in to investigators Wednesday afternoon on warrants charging him with complicity to commit murder, felonious assault and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.
The second suspect, Savheon R. Monroe, 16, of Canton, remains wanted on charges of murder, felonious assault and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, according to police.
The charges stem from the fatal shooting of Jordan A. Horton, 19, of Canton, whose body was discovered around 7 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Skyline Terrace Apartments in the 900 block of Alan Page Drive SE.
Officers and paramedics responded after a 911 caller reported an unresponsive man lying near a vehicle. First responders found Horton dead from a gunshot wound to the lower back.
Based on information gathered by Jordan Miller News, investigators believe the shooting occurred sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, although Horton’s body was not discovered until daylight.
The 911 caller told dispatchers they found Horton underneath or beside a white GMC Acadia. The caller said Horton appeared cold to the touch, had blood beneath him and was wearing only one shoe.
A nearby resident told Jordan Miller News he believes he heard the shooting hours before the body was discovered.
The resident, who lives in an apartment overlooking the parking lot, said he heard a loud argument followed by several gunshots.
“I heard the pops and saw the flash from the gun,” he said. “I didn’t actually see anyone get shot.”
The witness said he then saw one person chasing another before police arrived shortly afterward.
Having lived in the neighborhood for about five years, he said the violence has left him concerned for his family’s safety.
“It’s getting scary,” he said, adding that he worries about his children because of recent crime in the area.
Police are continuing to search for Monroe.
