A 20-year-old Canton man is dead following an early morning shooting Saturday in the city’s southwest side.
Officers with the Canton Police Department responded to the 800 block of Garfield Avenue SW, where a shooting was reported. The victim was transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Stark County Coroner Chief Investigator Tammy Wilkes confirmed to Jordan Miller News that the victim was a 20-year-old Canton man. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Crime Scene Unit was requested by the Canton Police Department to assist with processing the scene. BCI officials said all additional information regarding the investigation, including the circumstances surrounding the shooting, will be released by the Canton Police Department.
Authorities have not said what led to the shooting or whether any suspects have been identified. Another person was reportedly injured, but no additional information about that individual’s condition has been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
