A Canton man was killed late Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash in Tuscarawas County after investigators say he failed to stop at an intersection and struck a commercial tanker truck.
The crash happened around 11:42 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the intersection of state Route 93 and U.S. Route 250 in Franklin Township, according to the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said a 2008 Nissan Rogue, driven by 53-year-old Jeffrey A. Knerr of Canton, was traveling south on Route 93 when it failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2021 Peterbilt commercial truck pulling a tanker trailer that was traveling northwest on U.S. 250.
Knerr was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office. Authorities said he was not wearing a seat belt, and impairment is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The truck driver, a 39-year-old woman from Newcomerstown, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, according to investigators.
Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Beach City Fire Department, Wayne Township Fire Department, Strasburg Fire Department, the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation, Finlayson’s Towing and Rosenberry Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
