A Stark County man died Wednesday after his motorcycle collided with a minivan in Medina County, according to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.

Nathaniel Avina, 28, of Canal Fulton, was killed in the crash, which happened around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, on state Route 18 at Dunsha Road in Granger Township.

Deputies said Avina was riding a 2003 Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle when it collided with a 2021 Toyota Sienna minivan driven by Edward Uland, 44, of Valley City.

Avina was taken to Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Uland was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was treated and released.

A preliminary investigation indicates Uland failed to yield to oncoming traffic on state Route 18 while turning east from Dunsha Road, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators said Avina was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as contributing factors.

The crash remains under investigation by the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.

The Granger Fire Department, Sharon Fire Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Medina Post assisted at the scene.
