Frantic 911 calls captured the chaotic moments after a vehicle crashed into a restroom building at Harrison Hills Campground on Sunday, seriously injuring a 2-year-old boy.
The crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Hickory Trails restroom facility along Gem Road NW.
In one call, a panicked mother told dispatchers her 2-year-old son was unconscious and needed an ambulance immediately.
“We were just in the bathroom and someone ran into it, and concrete fell on him,” the mother told dispatchers, adding that debris struck the child in the head.
Another caller reported that a vehicle had crashed into the bathroom and that a child had been seriously hurt.
“Someone ran into the bathroom. A kid is hurt,” the caller said.
A separate caller told dispatchers a woman had accidentally driven through the structure.
“A woman put her car in the wrong direction and drove through the bathroom,” the caller said.
Another 911 caller, who identified herself as the daughter of the accused driver’s boyfriend, reported tensions escalating at the scene after the crash, saying people were confronting the woman behind the wheel.
The caller told dispatchers a man was attempting to fight people at the scene and believed he had been drinking.
“I understand a little boy got hurt, I got that 110-fucking-percent, but I think he’s been drinking and he’s trying to fight people right now,” the caller said.
She repeatedly described the crash as an accident.
Carroll County Sheriff Calvin Graham confirmed to Jordan Miller News that the vehicle struck the restroom shower facility, causing concrete blocks to collapse onto the child.
“The child was struck by cement blocks as a result of the car striking the building,” Graham said.
The child was seriously injured and transported to Akron Children’s Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Emergency calls began coming in shortly before 11:30 a.m.
At this time, the driver accused of crashing into the bathhouse has not been charged.
