Alliance police arrested a man Monday morning shortly after he allegedly robbed the Huntington Bank branch in the city.
Capt. Donald Wensel said officers were called around 9:20 a.m. after the bank’s alarm security company reported an active holdup alarm at Huntington Bank, 2 W. State St., Alliance.
“When we got there, the subject had already left,” Wensel told Jordan Miller News. “We got some basic direction of travel and searched the area. It was probably less than an hour later when one of our patrol officers happened to spot him.”
Wensel said the suspect had already made it home and changed clothes before officers arrived. “He had gotten rid of the black hoodie and hat he was wearing, but the officer recognized him from the still photo taken from the bank’s security footage,” he said.
The suspect, identified as Jauan L. Mason, 42, of Alliance, was taken into custody without incident.
According to Wensel, Mason indicated to the teller that he was armed, though no weapon was ever seen. “He was not armed when we arrested him,” Wensel said.
Police said Mason left the bank with $400 in $1 bills.
About eight employees were inside the bank during the robbery, including three tellers, Wensel said. It was unclear whether the bank reopened later in the day.
The incident remains under investigation by the Alliance Police Department.
