A late-night house fire in northeast Canton displaced three residents Tuesday, but no injuries were reported, fire officials said.
The Canton Fire Department responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. to a reported residential structure fire at a one-and-a-half-story home in the 3300 block of Fairmount Boulevard NE. Crews were dispatched at 9:30 p.m. and arrived on scene at 9:35 p.m., according to incident records.
Firefighters observed moderate smoke coming from a second-story window upon arrival. Further investigation determined the fire was burning in the knee walls of the second floor and had extended into the attic space.
Crews quickly extinguished the blaze. However, due to the extent of the damage, two adult men and one adult woman were displaced from the home. The American Red Cross was notified and is assisting the residents.
According to the occupants, smoke detectors were present inside the residence but did not activate. Neighbors noticed smoke coming from the home and called 911.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
Damage is estimated at $30,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents.
