The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on U.S. Route 250 in Sugarcreek Township that sent multiple people to area hospitals.
According to the patrol’s Canton Post, the crash occurred at approximately 3:43 p.m. Feb. 26.
Troopers said a 2002 silver Toyota RAV4 was traveling northwest on U.S. 250 while a 2024 black GMC Sierra was traveling southeast on the same roadway. Investigators determined the Toyota traveled left of center and struck the pickup truck head-on.
Three of the four occupants inside the RAV4 were ejected during the collision. The vehicle’s right-front passenger had to be extricated by firefighters.
All occupants involved were transported by EMS to Mercy Hospital and Aultman Hospital. Authorities reported seat belts were not in use by the occupants of the Toyota.
The driver of the RAV4 has not yet been identified.
The driver of the GMC Sierra, Lonnie A. Smith, 31, of Clinton Township, Michigan, sustained minor injuries and was transported by Beach City EMS to Mercy Hospital.
Beach City Fire and EMS, Wilmot EMS, Strasburg EMS and Tracer’s Towing assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
