A 22-year-old man was seriously injured after someone opened fire on a home on Maple Avenue NE early Thursday morning, according to Canton police reports obtained by Jordan Miller News.
Police were called to the area around 1:30 a.m. Aug. 20 after multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunfire and a home being struck by bullets.
One neighbor told a dispatcher she heard three or four gunshots and expressed frustration over continued gunfire in the neighborhood.
“I’m tired of this sh!t,” the caller said. “Can you send the police out here to Maple again? They’re out here shooting again. … I’m just a neighbor and I’m tired of it.”
Another caller frantically told dispatchers, “My house was just shot up,” repeatedly as police were sent to the scene.
According to a police report, an unknown suspect fired into a home, striking the 22-year-old victim, who was outside the residence. Police described his injuries as serious.
By the time officers arrived, the victim had already been taken from the scene in a private vehicle. Police later learned a gunshot victim had arrived at a Canton-area hospital.
Officers found a large amount of blood on the sidewalk in front of the home and a blood trail leading inside, according to reports. Police cleared the residence while searching for any additional victims or suspects but found no one else inside.
Investigators also found multiple shell casings across the street from the home, including several near an open yard and garage area. Additional evidence, including a live round and a firearm magazine, was found nearby, according to reports.
Police also reported finding apparent bullet damage to a nearby structure and vehicles believed to have been involved in transporting the victim to the hospital were later impounded as part of the investigation.
The shooting remains under investigation. No suspect information was immediately released.
