A 42-year-old man suffered critical injuries after being struck by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle on Geottge Ave NE Friday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:47 p.m. on Friday, August 30.

According to Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell, a nearby resident reported the incident, indicating that the victim, identified as Robert L. Dustin Bowe, had been hit by a green pickup truck that fled the scene. Deputies and detectives immediately began interviewing witnesses and collecting video evidence.

Surveillance footage showed the green truck striking Bowe before continuing through the parking lot of the old Hometown 1 Mobile Home Sales location, turning west onto East High Avenue.

Upon arrival, emergency responders assessed Bowe’s condition and determined he had sustained multiple broken bones along with a serious head injury. He was transported by medical helicopter to Summa Akron City Hospital, where he underwent surgery for brain trauma. As of the latest update, Bowe remains in critical condition.

A witness assisted authorities in identifying the driver of the fleeing vehicle, leading detectives to a nearby residence on Geottge Ave NE. Detective Captain Adam Fisher interviewed the suspect, a 23-year-old male from New Philadelphia, who confessed to intentionally striking Bowe. The suspect cited a history of alleged threats and theft-related issues between himself and the victim.

Following the confession, detectives located the suspect’s vehicle, which had been stashed at a relative’s home on North Water Street in Uhrichsville. The truck was secured and impounded for evidence processing.

At approximately 7:15 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody and later incarcerated in the Tuscarawas County Jail. His identity will be released once formal charges are filed next week. A probable cause hearing was conducted by Judge Von Allman of New Philadelphia Municipal Court, leading to the suspect’s continued detention. Felonious assault is among the charges expected to be filed.

The investigation is being led by Detective Captain Adam Fisher, with assistance from Detective Sergeant Ed Jones, Detective Cole Morris, and numerous patrol deputies who worked to gather witness statements and video evidence.
