The Louisville City School District has announced a change to the traditional greeting used at the start of band performances, a decision made after careful consideration of community feedback.

For years, the customary “Hi!” at the beginning of halftime shows has been a beloved symbol of the band’s enthusiasm and connection with its audience, according to a statement from the school district. However, district officials, including the Board of Education, administration, and band directors, have decided to eliminate this greeting for this evening’s performance.

Concerns had been raised by some community members who felt that the traditional greeting could be perceived as offensive.

Sources familiar with the situation say that when the band does their traditional “Hi,” they wave to the crowd with a gesture that resembles the Hitler salute.

In response, the district is taking steps to ensure that all members of the community feel respected and included during performances, the statement read.

“We take these concerns very seriously,” read the statement. “Our primary goal is to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and welcome.”

As part of the change, an alternative greeting will be introduced for future band shows, aimed at preserving the spirit of audience engagement while addressing the concerns raised.
