Around 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, April 21, a Canton resident preparing for a fishing trip at Cook’s Lagoon on 1819 Mahoning Rd NE made a startling discovery: the roof of an SUV protruding from the pond.

The Canton Fire Department’s Water Rescue team arrived to assess the submerged vehicle for potential occupants, while Canton PD initiated an investigation. Due to locked doors, rescue personnel broke the windows to search the SUV, which was fortunately found empty.

Subsequent checks revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from a Plain Township address just days prior.

Collaborating with Canton Towing, rescue teams extracted the SUV from the water.

The incident remains under the investigation of Canton PD, with no reported injuries among firefighters or civilians.
