The Ohio State Highway Patrol New Philadelphia Post is currently investigating a two-vehicle accident resulting in a fatality on US 36 near milepost 1 in Clay Township, Tuscarawas County.

At around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, a red 1994 Honda Gold Wind SE was heading westbound on US 36 east of TR 454A, slowing down to make a left turn onto TR 454A. The Honda was rear-ended by a silver 2002 Pontiac Grand AM. The impact propelled the Honda off the right side of the road, colliding with a tree and coming to a halt down an embankment.

The Honda’s driver was identified as Charles Dayton Cox, 63, from Gnadenhutten, Ohio. Cox was rushed by Arrowhead Joint Fire District to Trinity Hospital Twin City, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Operating the Pontiac was Raven Kolton-Lee Reynolds, 21, of West Lafayette. Reynolds received on-site treatment from Uhrichsville Fire and Rescue before being released.

Responders including Uhrichsville Fire and Rescue, Arrowhead Joint Fire District, Performance Towing, Keith’s Towing, and the Ohio Department of Transportation arrived to provide aid and support.

Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash. It was noted that Cox was not wearing a helmet while Reynolds was wearing his seatbelt.

The investigation into this fatal accident remains ongoing.
