The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed one person on State Route 39 near milepost 22 in Union Township, Tuscarawas County.

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, at approximately 2:51 a.m., a 2009 Dodge Challenger, operated by a 48-year-old man of Sherrodsville, was traveling eastbound on State Route 39.

The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, striking a guardrail. It overcorrected, went off the left side of the roadway, striking a ditch, and overturned, troopers say.

The right front passenger, Jennifer Sickels, 46, of Sherrodsville, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, New Philadelphia Fire Department, Sherrodsville Fire Department, the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office, Smith Ambulance, and Performance Towing responded to the crash scene.

Two rear passengers, ages 25 and 24, were both transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash, according to troopers. None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, troopers say.
