A recent shooting has now turned into a murder-suicide, officials believe.

Stark County Sheriff’s deputies have reported that Byron Fite, 62, the husband of 61-year-old Christine Fite, has succumbed to his injuries.

Christine Fite was pronounced dead at 5:57 p.m. over a week ago by the Stark County Coroner’s Office after she was found shot to death. Inspector William Jones, heading the investigation for the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, discovered her lifeless body on the floor of the upstairs bedroom.

Byron Fite, her husband, was found with a self-inflected gun shot wound in the basement. He was rushed to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center in critical condition following the incident. Despite medical efforts, he passed away later.

The discovery of both individuals was made after a concerned relative alerted the sheriff’s office around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Deputies responded to the call and found the couple in their residence on 31st Street NE. The motive behind the tragic incident is still under investigation, as stated by Inspector Jones. The coroner’s office believes Christine Fite was killed sometime on Sunday morning.

The investigation into the shooting continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
