As Minerva’s current athletic director Mike Waller eyes retirement, the school district has chosen their next AD, pending board approval.
Garth Evans is the next man up. He’s served as the AD at Sandy Valley for the last five years.
“The District is looking forward to benefiting from Garth’s leadership which began with his time in the Air Force. He is coming to us with experience as an athletic director, most recently at Sandy Valley Local Schools, where he is in his fifth year,” Minerva superintendent Gary Chaddock remarked.
Evans is familiar with Lion country, having watched his father coach and teach within the Minerva District.
“Garth spent his childhood on Minerva’s football field and basketball court alongside his father who was a coach and teacher for us. It was then that his passion for athletics rooted,” Chaddock said.
Chaddock said Evans’ vision aligns with Minerva’s, and that’s what made him the viable choice.
“It was clear in his interview that Garth is dedicated to the success of student athletes, coaches, and the community which will be evident to our stakeholders by his visibility and engagement,” Chaddock added.
