Railroad worker found dead on tracks in Jewett

A railroad worker lost their life in the line of duty on Monday in Jewett.  

The worker, whose identity has not been released, was employed by the Columbus and Ohio River Railroad (CUOH). The deceased was from Muskingum County.  

The incident happened late Monday night into Tuesday morning. His body was discovered when other workers arrived at the scene. The Harrison County Sheriff’s  

“Our thoughts are with our colleague’s loved ones and teammates at this difficult time.
The incident and cause of death is still under investigation. As we are working with the NTSB and other agencies, we cannot share additional information at the moment.”

Office is handling the investigation, along with the independent of the NTSB.  

The cause of the worker’s death has yet to be determined. Officials do not believe the worker’s death to be suicide.  

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) took to social media to announce their involvement in probing the tragic event: NTSB is opening an investigation into a railroad employee fatality Jewett, Ohio.”   

NTSB investigators arrived at the scene on Tuesday, commencing the on-site phase of the investigation. According to the NTSB, a preliminary report detailing the initial findings is expected to be released within the next 30 days.
