Victims, including three students, identified in fatal bus crash involving Tusky Valley band

Officials with the Ohio State Highway Patrol have identified the six people killed in a tragic crash involving the Tusky Valley band.

According to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, six people died and 15 others were injured in a fiery crash that took place on I-70 Tuesday morning. Three of the six killed have been identified as Tusky Valley students.

Chaperones and a teacher were the other three killed.

The crash happened on I-70 near Licking County when a semi-truck rear-ended a charter bus transporting 57 people (including students) from the Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools District.

The crash victims have been identified as senior John W. Mosley, 18, of Mineral City, senior Jeffery “JD” Worrell, 18, of Bolivar, and sophomore Katelyn Owens, 15, also of Mineral City.

The other three killed were in a separate vehicle, they have been identified as high school teacher Dave Kennat, 56, of Navarre, parent/chaperone Kristy Gaynor, 39, of Zoar and parent/chaperone Shannon Wigfield, 45, of Bolivar.

All six who died were pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus driver and 15 students were taken to local hospitals for injuries and the others on board were taken to a local church for reunification.

Officials say 57 people were aboard the bus when it crashed.
