A 17-year-old was killed and a 23-year-old was left injured following a shooting in Akron Wednesday afternoon.

In an incident that unfolded around 4:03 p.m. Wednesday, law Akron Police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of E. Glenwood Avenue and Dan Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered two male victims, aged 23 and 17, both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds while seated inside a vehicle.

The 17-year-old victim was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead. The 23-year-old victim sustained injuries deemed non-life-threatening and was transported to Summa Health Akron City Hospital for medical attention.

The identities of the victims involved are being withheld at this time, pending the necessary notifications and further investigation.

Initial findings suggest that the victims were traveling in the vicinity when a second vehicle, occupied by unidentified individuals, pulled in front of their car and opened fire. Following the attack, the suspects promptly fled the scene, and their whereabouts remain unknown.

The shooting also resulted in stray bullets striking a residence on the nearby Damon Street. No additional injuries were reported from the bullets that hit the home.

Law enforcement officers recovered numerous shell casings, indicating a significant exchange of gunfire.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Those with potential leads or information pertinent to the case are encouraged to contact the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490.
