The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is holding a steering wheel lock giveaway for Kia and Hyundai owners to help slow the trend of car thefts in the county. Individuals will need to bring their driver’s license, proof of insurance, and registration to obtain the lock.
Stark County Sheriff George Maier warns residents that these thefts have been happening in Stark County, and they may need extra protection for their vehicles.
“Stark County communities have certainly fallen victim to these crimes, with hundreds reported stolen across the county,” Sheriff Maier said. “These incidents tend to occur in the evening hours in residential areas, however we have seen the, in businesses and other organizational parking lots.”
These steering wheel locks will be provided to anyone that owns a Kia or Hyundai vehicle that was manufactured between 2011 and 2022. Car thefts have been on the rise across the country, and Stark County wants to get ahead of the trend before it becomes more serious.
Steering wheel locks can be obtained from the Stark County Sheriff’s Office throughout the week while supplies last.
“Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. come into our front office,” Sheriff Maier said. “Make sure you bring your proof of insurance, your driver’s license, and your vehicle registration and we certainly will provide you with a steering wheel lock.”
