Monday afternoon, two women were injured in a shooting incident that is currently being investigated by Akron Police detectives.

The officers responded to a call regarding shots fired around 3:48 p.m. in the 500 block of Gridley Street in Akron.

One of the victims, a 65-year-old woman, was on her front porch when she was struck in the shoulder. The officers located her and transported her to the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center. Her injury is non-life-threatening.

The second victim, a 25-year-old woman, arrived at the Summa Health Akron City Hospital minutes later with a gunshot wound to the hand.

The preliminary findings suggest that three men exited a car that was driving southbound on Gridley Street and opened fire. They then fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Several bullets struck at least three homes and parked vehicles nearby. The detectives recovered over forty shell casings and other evidence from the scene.

The Akron Police Department Detective Bureau is encouraging anyone with information to call them at 330-375-2490.
