Tragedy struck Chautauqua Lake in New York on Friday morning as a 66-year-old Ohio man lost his life in a boating accident.
According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Mieczkowski of Wintersville, Ohio, fell overboard while fishing around 8:30 a.m. on May 26.
Authorities responded to the call of a fisherman overboard and located a vessel matching the description in the area of Bemus Point. They found Mieczkowski in the water and immediately pulled him out. However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The cause of the accident is yet to be determined, and the investigation is ongoing.
