The United Lady Eagles moved to 8-2 on the season with a Saturday afternoon victory over the East Palestine Bulldogs.

United pitcher Tori Firth struck out 16 batters on the day and recorded one RBI herself on a sacrifice fly.

Neither team scored runs in the first inning, but the Eagles busted the game wide open in the bottom of the second thanks to a Grace Coffee homerun.

United freshman Josie Vargo and senior Taylor Cope both drew walks to get on base. With no outs, Coffee stepped up to the plate and blasted a pitch over the left field fence for a three-run shot to put the Lady Eagles ahead 3-0.

Coffee also finished the game with a single in the third inning.

Mati Zines, Sam Lippiatt and Joshlynn Irey each scored runs to finish out the inning, increasing United’s lead to 6-0.

East Palestine scored their lone run when freshman Amara Wilson stole home on a passed ball in the top of the third inning to cut the Lady Eagles lead to 6-1.

Irey and Lippiatt each scored again for United in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the lead to 8-1 – which would be the final score.
