Investigators with the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal (SFM) have ruled a fatal fire in Canton (Stark County) this morning as being caused by arson. Investigators with SFM’s Fire and Explosion Investigation Bureau are now seeking tips from the public to help identify those responsible.

Early Wednesday, May 1, at approximately 1:28 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a residence located at 200 Lincoln Ave. NW, in Canton for a reported structure fire. While at the scene, firefighters reported discovering the body of a male while extinguishing the blaze. A subsequent investigation with Canton Fire Investigators and State Fire Marshal investigators has determined the fire’s cause as being intentionally set.

Video captured by witnesses show multiple persons of interest fleeing the scene at the time of the fire. A reward of $5,000 is being offered by the Blue Ribbon Arson Committee for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Fire Marshal’s tip line at 800-589-2728. Callers can remain anonymous, and all tips will be thoroughly investigated.
