The Minerva Local school community is mourning the loss of a member of the cross-country team following injuries he sustained after Saturday’s cross-country district race.
Minerva Local Superintendent Gary Chaddock said Owen Grubb, a Minerva junior, died after the race. The cause of the fatal injuries have not been disclosed at this time.
“We are all grieving the loss of Owen, who was a bright light in our high school and exceptional student athlete,” said Chaddock. “We are keeping our entire school community close to our hearts during this time.”
The district has brought in counselors to meet with his teammates and provide mental health support. Additional counseling services will be available to all district students through the week.
Just last week at the EBC championships, Grubb placed ninth in the conference with a time of 17:23.
JMN extends our deepest sympathies to Owen Grubb’s family during this challenging time.
