The New Philadelphia Police Department is investigating the death of a one-year-old boy who died Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Landon Parrot, 19, took his one-year-old son to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital because he was unresponsive.

During initial questioning, Parrot provided what police said was “inconsistent information.” He later confessed to what happened to the young child.

The child passed away after being left in the car unattended for approximately 5 hours, with an outside temperature of 87 degrees, according to police.

“It appears that this was not a matter of forgetting the child but was a deliberate act so as the child would not be a disturbance while in the house,” said Police Chief Mike Goodwin.

Parrot has been charged with Murder, Endangering Children (2 counts), and Involuntary Manslaughter. He currently is being held in the Tuscarawas County Jail on $250,000 bond.
