East Canton High School’s Week 3 football game at Southern Local has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Hornets’ program, according to East Canton athletic director Doug Miller.
East Canton becomes the second Stark County team to a have game affected by the virus, after Lake High School’s Week 2 matchup at Maple Heights was also canceled.
“We’re a lot like in the same situation Lake was,” Miller stated Tuesday.
However, Miller does not expect the setback to last long enough for the Hornets to cancel or push back further games.
“We fully intend to play our next game next Friday at Tusky Valley because the quarantine time will be over then,” Miller said.
The game’s cancellation comes after East Canton won their Week 2 game versus United Local, 13-7. The Hornets (1-1) lost their season opener to Dalton, 41-0.
Southern Local is currently active in finding a replacement opponent for Friday.
