HS Sports Monday: Haynam’s hat trick leads Canton South girls soccer; Carrollton golfers remain undefeated

Canton South sophomore Marissa Haynam scored three goals in the first half of the Wildcats’ 7-0 blowout victory over the Sandy Valley Cardinals on Monday night.

Haynam scored the second, third, and fourth goals of South’s evening (Abbie Bergert scored South’s first goal off a deflected shot), along with second-half scores from Alexis Justice (two) and Joslyn Harsh (one).

The Canton South girls move to 3-0 with the victory.

FAIRLESS 10, TUSLAW 3

Gracie Ashton also had a big night for Fairless in their 10-3 win over Tuslaw.

Ashton recorded seven goals to go with teammates Gracie Doll (two goals) and Ella Cox (one) as the Lady Falcons advanced to 4-0 for the season.

BOYS GOLF

CARROLLTON 154, CANTON SOUTH 197

Jaxon Rinkes’ 2-under 34 and Cayden Rininger’s even-par 36 boosted the Carrollton boys golf team to a match win over Canton South at Spring Valley on Monday.

Rinkes and Rininger were joined in scoring by Colton Moore and John Birong, who both carded 42s (+6) for the nine.

For South, Dem Mackey led his team with a 42 (+6), along with a 51 (+15) from Aaron Knop and 52s (+16) from Hunter Smith and Andrew Bifolchi.

The Carrollton boys move to 7-0 with the win.

INDIAN VALLEY 178, CLAYMONT 201

Austen Gunn and Isaac Stokey each shot 42 (+6) to lead Indian Valley to an Inter-Valley Conference win over Claymont at River Greens.

The Braves also received scores from Aden Trushell (46, +10), while Garrett Miller and Daniel Grewell each carded 48 (+12).

The Mustangs’ top scorer was Koi Reston (46, +10).

WEST HOLMES 160, WAYNEDALE 168

West Holmes defeated Waynedale by eight shots on Monday at Fire Ridge.

Hunter Ellis led the Knights at 37 (+1), and Trey Baker shot a 40 (+4).

Brody Allen (41, +5) and Grady Toye (42, +6) also scored for the winning team.

DOVER FINISHES 11TH AT CONGRESS LAKE INVITATIONAL

Dover’s boys’ squad shot 340 and finished 11th out of 19 teams at the 18-hole Congress Lake Invitational on Monday in Hartville.

Carter Begue led the Crimson Tornadoes with 80 (+8). Zach Dale added 83 (+11), while Dylan Grewell shot an 88 (+16) and Jacob Hanne had 89 (+17).

St. Ignatius Gold won the outing at 306.

MALVERN 178, MINERVA 183, EAST CANTON 240

Malvern won their triangular match over Minerva and East Canton at Great Trail on Monday.

Connor Lefevre shot 41 (+5) to lead the Hornets.

GIRLS GOLF

CANTON CENTRAL CATHOLIC 182, DOVER 188

Canton Central Catholic squeezed by the Dover Crimson Tornadoes in Monday’s girls match at Arrowhead.

Riley Schie led Dover by shooting a 39 (+3), while (47, +11) Riley McIntosh (49, +13), and Mya Downing (53, +17) rounded out the Crimson scoring.

Schee shared match medalist honors with Kristen Belden (39, +3), who led the Crusaders.

CLAYMONT 208, NEWCOMERSTOWN 228

Claymont was victorious in their match with the Newcomerstown Trojans at Hickory Flats.

Alivia Edwards led the Mustangs at 45 (+9), while Melanie Gibson led the Trojans at 51 (+15).

VOLLEYBALL

TRI-VALLEY 25-18-25-26, DOVER 23-25-23-24

Tri-Valley handed Dover its first loss of the season in a four-set decision at Dresden.

Taylor Luneborg (14 kills, 20 digs, 11 points), Morgan Kiser (14 kills, 21 digs), Cara Detweiler (10 kills), Katie Bleininger (45 assists, 10 points), and Reece Palmatier (19 digs, 11 points) led Dover, who drops to 3-1 on the year.

GIRLS TENNIS

DOVER 3, LOUISVILLE 2

Dover’s girls’ tennis team moved to 7-0 on the season after a 3-2 sets win over Louisville on Monday.

Maisie Dugger won at 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles, while the Tornadoes’ doubles teams – Jenna Zeigler and Hannah Graziani (6-3, 6-1), and Grace Williams and Josie Pinielli (6-5, 6-2) – were also victorious.

CLAYMONT 4, BEAVER LOCAL 1

The Lady Mustangs won their match at Beaver Local with a sweep in singles play and a split in doubles.

Arianna Terekedis (6-0, 6-0), Emma Lesiecki (6-2, 6-0), and Emily Luyster (6-1, 6-0) all won their respective matches, while Maddison Houston and Brooke Davis (6-0, 6-0) bested Beaver in doubles play.
