A man from Stonecreek was arrested Wednesday evening by Tuscarawas County deputies after they say he assaulted a woman and then proceeding to shoot in the direction of a witness who called 911.

Sheriff Orvis Campbell says dispatch received a call from a woman saying she and her boyfriend witnessed a man, later identified as Austin Humrickhouse, exit his vehicle and walk up to another vehicle with a female in it. They say he assaulted a female by grabbing her by the neck area. The alleged incident occurred under the West High Ave overpass (I-77).

The suspect and the assaulted female continued down the road in separate vehicles after the assault. The witness and her boyfriend followed the two cars which pulled into a driveway in the 3500 block of Stonecreek Rd.

Sheriff Campbell says the witness asked the female if she was okay and she nodded that she was. That’s when the witness says Humrickhouse grabbed a handgun from his vehicle and fired two shots into the ground in the direction of the witnesses.

Humrickhouse was charged with Domestic Violence and Assault based on the witness statements. He was also charged with Aggravated Menacing for firing shots towards witnesses. He also violated an unrelated protection order and was charged because the order prohibits him from possession or using a firearm at anytime.

The alleged victim of the assault denied that she assaulted by Humrickhouse. She says he was upset with her because she was “driving and tried to take her phone” from her.

Humrickhouse admitted to shooting the two rounds when he called a friend. The gun used in the incident belonged to a friend of the suspect who left the gun in the car. The friend was in the car when he allegedly assaulted the victim but walked away when they arrived back at the house.
