Many local fire departments responded to a building fire at the Dover Cheminal plant late Thursday night.
Dover’s fire chief says his department was dispatched to the 3676 Davis Road plant at 11:51 p.m for a fire. Upon arrival, a large fire was located in the center with a building and large piece of equipment.
The fire was contained by 1:13 Friday morning and did not spread. No injuries were reported.
A hydrochloric acid release occurred because of the fire at the plant. Officials were forced to close down nearby I-77 for about two hours.
The county asked residents to shelter in place as a precautionary measure.
