The Tuscarawas Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect accused of robbing an elderly woman at gun point Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities were dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Crossroads Plaza, south of Magnolia, according to Detective Sergeant Adam Fisher with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff‘s office.

When authorities responded to the scene, it was learned that an 81-year-old woman was trying to retrieve money from the Bank of Magnolia ATM in the plaza when she said she was approached by a man.

The victim told police that she was confronted by a 16-20-year-old man, wearing all black, who brandished a firearm and attempted to steal her cash.

He was unable to steal her money and he fled the scene when the 81-year-old woman challenged him. The victim did not sustain injuries during the alleged robbery.

Detective Sergeant Fisher said the suspect has not been apprehended at this time and they are making all attempts to locate the suspect in question.

“We are making efforts to apprehend him, locate him and identify him,” Fisher said. “ surveillance cameras have been reviewed, footage is being gathered and the investigation is ongoing.”

Sandy Valley schools were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure but the lockdown has since been lifted.
