A 15-year-old girl died late Friday afternoon after being shot in the head in Alliance, and a 14-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with her death, according to police.

Officers were dispatched around 4:18 p.m. Friday to the 600 block of West Summit Street for a reported shooting, Alliance Police Capt. James Hillis said.

When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 14-year-old male was taken into custody and has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, Hillis said. He noted the charges can change throughout the course of the investigation.

Police said the victim and suspect were acquaintances, but additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately released.

The Alliance Police Department and the Stark County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate.

Authorities have not publicly identified either juvenile due to their ages.

No additional information was available Friday evening.
