A woman was critically injured Tuesday morning in an apparent domestic-related assault in Jackson Township, and a suspect was taken into custody following a vehicle pursuit in neighboring Portage County, authorities said.

Jackson Township police were dispatched at approximately 7:58 a.m. to the 5100 block of Dressler Road NW for a reported assault, according to a media release issued by Police Chief Mark H. Brink. A caller reported a woman bleeding from her face and said the male suspect had fled the area.

Officers arrived and located an adult female victim suffering injuries to her head, neck and chest. Jackson Township Fire Department medics transported her to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. Police said the stab wounds were believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators obtained suspect information and issued a statewide “be on the lookout” alert. The Portage County Sheriff’s Office later located the suspect and initiated a pursuit that ended when the suspect crashed his vehicle, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Tyrone Anthony Card, 44. Police said his address was unknown. Card was taken into custody after the crash and transported to a hospital in Ravenna for treatment of injuries described as unknown in severity.

Jackson Township officers are seeking the following charges:

Aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony Attempted murder, a first-degree felony Felonious assault, a second-degree felony

Investigators believe the victim and suspect were in a relationship. A motive has not been determined.

Police credited the Jackson Township Detective Bureau, Jackson Township Fire Department and Portage County Sheriff’s Office with assisting in the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
