A 19-year-old man accused of firing a gun into an occupied vehicle during a July incident in Stark County has been named the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force’s Fugitive of the Week.
Kaden Deland is wanted by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service on a felonious assault charge, according to the task force. Authorities said Deland is suspected of firing a gun into an occupied vehicle.
The charge stems from an incident that began shortly before 1:30 a.m. July 30 in the 2800 block of Eighth Street NE.
Stark County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially responded to the area for a report of a hit-skip crash with injuries, according to information provided by sheriff’s office spokesperson Connie Deibel.
Investigators determined that 22-year-old Veyonce Wilson, of Canton, intentionally struck a 49-year-old woman with a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, the sheriff’s office said. The woman was taken to a hospital for evaluation of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities said Wilson fled the scene and was later located by Canton police following another crash in the city.
Wilson has been charged by the Stark County Sheriff’s Office with one count each of felonious assault and aggravated vehicular assault, both second-degree felonies. She also faces additional charges from Canton police.
As Wilson’s vehicle fled the scene, authorities said a second suspect fired one shot at the vehicle before also leaving the area.
A 50-year-old male bystander suffered a minor injury that investigators said may have been caused by a bullet fragment. He declined medical treatment.
The U.S. Marshals Service has since identified Deland as the fugitive wanted in connection with the alleged shooting.
Deland is described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 135 pounds. Authorities said he is known to frequent the Canton and Cleveland areas.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a reward for information leading to Deland’s capture.
Anyone with information about Deland’s whereabouts can contact the task force at 1-866-4WANTED or submit a tip through the U.S. Marshals Service website. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
The Canton Police Department and Canton Township Fire Department assisted the Stark County Sheriff’s Office during the initial investigation.
