Authorities say a man wanted in connection with two recent armed robberies at Dollar General stores in Stark County has been arrested and is now facing charges in multiple jurisdictions.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday announced the arrest of Dyllan Riter, 28, in cooperation with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, New Philadelphia Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, the Ohio Adult Parole Authority and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Riter is accused of robbing two Dollar General locations — one at 8565 Waynesburg Drive SE in Waynesburg and another at 9141 Cleveland Avenue SE in East Sparta — in recent weeks, according to the sheriff’s office.

New Philadelphia police said officers encountered Riter behind an East High Avenue residence near the city’s airport around 8 a.m. Wednesday after being called for a suspicious person. During an attempt to arrest him, police say Riter wrestled away an officer’s gun and fired a shot. No officers were injured. He was taken into custody a short time later.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office has charged Riter with two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of child endangering, failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, and theft. Additional charges are expected out of Tuscarawas County, where he was jailed Wednesday.

Riter was also wanted on a parole violation, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing.
