The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for several counties across Northeast Ohio, in effect until 8:15 p.m. Monday evening.
At 7:15 p.m., Doppler radar detected strong thunderstorms moving northeast at 25 mph. The storm system was tracked along a line stretching from near Rittman to Mount Eaton and Farmerstown.
The primary hazard associated with these storms is wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph, according to radar indications. The gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Counties under the warning include southern Portage, southeastern Medina, Stark, southern Summit, Wayne, and eastern Holmes.
Cities expected to be impacted include Akron, Canton, Wooster, Millersburg, Massillon, Barberton, Green, Alliance, Wadsworth, Tallmadge, North Canton, Louisville, Orrville, Berlin, Rittman, Mogadore, Walnut Creek, Minerva, Doylestown, and Hartville.
The weather service warns that torrential rainfall may accompany these storms, leading to localized flooding. Residents are urged not to drive through flooded roadways and to seek shelter indoors if outside.
