Police have located the driver accused of striking a woman with a pickup truck during Saturday’s “No Kings” protest in Jackson Township. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and the Massillon Prosecutor’s Office is being consulted regarding possible charges.
According to Jackson Township Police Chief Mark Brink, officers responded around 2:10 p.m. Saturday to reports of a person being hit during the demonstration on Fulton Drive NW. The driver of a white pickup truck fled the scene but was later found at his residence in Jackson Township with the assistance of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Witnesses said the incident unfolded as participants stood along Fulton Drive holding signs and flags as part of a nationwide day of action. Several protesters said the truck drove over the curb and struck a woman before speeding away.
“I noticed a white pickup truck start driving over toward the curb, almost hitting a car,” one protester said. “He drove up the curb trying to scare us, and we all jumped back. Unfortunately, a woman standing close to me was hit.”
Bystanders, including a woman who identified herself as a doctor, rushed to help the victim before first responders arrived. Jackson Township firefighters and medics treated the woman at the scene and transported her to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Police continue to investigate what led up to the crash. Anyone with video or information about the incident is asked to contact Lt. Jason Collins at 330-834-3960.
The “No Kings” rally was one of several held across Stark County — including in Canton, Massillon and Alliance — as part of a national movement focused on protecting democracy and social programs.
