The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon that seriously injured a pedestrian along U.S. Route 250 in Tuscarawas County.

The crash happened around 12:19 p.m. near milepost 12.1 in Goshen Township, according to the New Philadelphia Post of the Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a 2003 Peterbilt commercial vehicle was disabled on the southwest berm of the eastbound lanes, with a 2011 Ford F-550 service truck parked in front of it. The service technician and the truck driver were working on the Peterbilt’s left front tire when a 2005 Sterling L8500 truck drifted over the white fog line and struck the 24-year-old technician.

The Sterling continued down the road without stopping, troopers said. The victim was flown by Med Flight to Akron Summa Hospital with serious injuries. The 28-year-old driver of the Peterbilt sustained possible injuries and was treated at the scene.

The suspect truck and driver were found a few hours later at a local business, authorities said.

The Highway Patrol was assisted by the New Philadelphia Fire Department, New Philadelphia Police Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Med Flight.

The crash remains under investigation. Witnesses are asked to contact the New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post at 330-339-1103.
