A woman was killed and a man injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 250 in Tuscarawas County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the New Philadelphia post said the crash happened around 3:18 p.m. near mile marker 27 in Union Township, close to the Harrison County line.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2003 Cadillac DeVille, driven westbound by a 50-year-old woman, crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2024 Toyota Tacoma head-on. The Toyota went off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail end and overturned on top of the barrier, investigators said.
The Cadillac’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office. The 67-year-old man driving the Toyota was taken to Mercy Hospital with injuries.
Troopers said both drivers were wearing seat belts. Investigators believe drugs were a factor in the crash.
The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with road closures and traffic control. Also responding were the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Dennison Fire Department, the coroner’s office, Smith Ambulance, Countryside Towing and D & S Towing.
