The Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the drivers involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on U.S. Route 250 in Tuscarawas County.

Troopers from the New Philadelphia post said the crash happened around 3:18 p.m. near mile marker 27 in Union Township, close to the Harrison County line.

According to investigators, a 2003 Cadillac DeVille driven westbound by Bobbie Jo Hart, 50, of Waynesburg, Ohio, crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2024 Toyota Tacoma head-on. The Toyota, driven by 67-year-old Keith Confer of Cadiz, Ohio, went off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail end, and overturned on top of the barrier.

Hart was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office. Confer was transported to Mercy Hospital with injuries.

Troopers said both drivers were wearing seat belts. Investigators believe drugs were a factor in the crash.

The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with road closures and traffic control. Also responding were the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Dennison Fire Department, the coroner’s office, Smith Ambulance, Countryside Towing and D & S Towing.
