Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson has filed separate lawsuits against two home-improvement companies accused of accepting payments from customers without completing promised projects or performing satisfactory work.

The lawsuits involve 14 consumers who reported combined losses exceeding $200,000, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

The companies named in the lawsuits are Journey Home Restoration in Lorain County and The Metal Roof Company in central Ohio.

The state alleges that Journey Home Restoration and its owner, Jason Kaczur, accepted approximately $140,000 from nine customers for roofing, siding and gutter projects that were never completed.

The lawsuit, filed in Lorain County Common Pleas Court, alleges multiple violations of the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act and seeks financial relief for the affected customers.

A separate lawsuit filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court targets The Metal Roof Company and its owner, identified in the attorney general’s release as Danile Toland.

According to the state, five customers reported combined losses exceeding $60,000.

The lawsuit alleges the company performed defective or substandard roofing work and failed to address customer complaints. In one instance, the company allegedly accepted payment for a new roof but never began the project.

“When Ohioans pay for contractors to repair their homes, they trust those contractors to follow through,” Wilson said. “Not doing the work is not acceptable.”

The attorney general’s office said The Metal Roof Company appears to remain in operation and is encouraging additional consumers who may have experienced similar problems to come forward.

Consumers who paid either company for unfinished projects or believe they received defective work can contact the Ohio Attorney General’s Office at 1-800-282-0515 or through its consumer protection website.

The allegations have not been established in court. The attorney general’s announcement did not include responses from either company or its owners.
